The chimney was originally constructed in 1933 as part of the barracks building for the CCC. The barracks building is no longer exist. As part of a CCC camp for Company 1713 which was at Roaring River State Park from 1933 to 1939 and did extensive construction at the park.
The chimney is now used for campfires for organized youth groups that stay at Camp Smokey.
