In Dedham, off Court Street and in the Old Village Cemetery, is this grave marker for Joseph Lewis, one of many for American Revolutionary War veterans at this location.
The cemetery is located behind St. Paul's Episcopal Church, which is at the intersection of Court Street and Village Avenue. Park on Village Avenue and enter from that road just behind the church. The grave is several feet in on the right.
The marker is a grey slate vertically positioned. There are many others in this section of the cemetery. This one is part of a row of markers surrounded by flags and other adornments. One face has a series of arch designs at the top and columns on the edges. The inscription is below. In general, Lewis lived from 1738 to 1804.
According to an article found, Captain Joseph Lewis, marched with the Dedham Militia to Lexington on April 19., 1775.
