The Stein Brothers Building was built in 1906 replacing an earlier Stein's Store building which was destroyed by a fire. The building was built by former Nebraska Governor and U.S. Senator Charles Dietrich. The Stein brothers (Edmund and Herman) purchased the building from the Dietrich estate in 1925. The Stein brothers used the building as a department store for 27 years until closing during the Great Depression in 1933. The building was used by Montgomery Ward from 1934 to 1968.
The building is a Prairie styled commercial building and is adorned with terra cotta lion heads.
