In the municipality of Hardenberg is located southeast of De Krim a very interesting bird area: Vloeivelden De Krim.
The area was originally a rinse basin of potato flour factory AVEBE. After the factory in 1990 stopped the area became increasingly attractive to more and more species of birds, including several rare species such as the endangered black-necked grebe, terns, black-headed gull, Garganey, long-eared owl, barn owl and blue throat.
When in winter thousands taigaen tundra bean geese settle here in the twilight, that is a phenomenal sight.
