In Gedenken an die verstorbenen französischen Juden im KZ Mauthausen wurde dieses Denkmal errichtet.
Es besteht aus einer Steinmauer und einem Obelisken.
Im Herbst 1949 wird das französische Denkmal als erstes großes nationales Monument enthüllt.

Das Konzentrationslager Mauthausen war das größte Konzentrationslager der Nationalsozialisten auf dem Gebiet Österreichs, der damaligen Donau- und Alpenreichsgaue. Es befand sich 20 Kilometer östlich von Linz in Mauthausen und bestand vom 8. August 1938 bis zu seiner Auflösung nach der Befreiung seiner Insassen durch US-amerikanische Truppen am 5. Mai 1945. Im KZ Mauthausen und seinen Nebenlagern sind rund 100.000 Menschen ums Leben gekommen. Auf dem Gelände des ehemaligen Konzentrationslagers befindet sich seit 1947 eine Mahn- und Gedenkstätte der Republik Österreich.
