1945 holocaust survivors founded a new Jewish community in Essen.
The grounbreaking ceremony for the new synagogue in Sedanstraße took place on 7/24/1958. This is the place where the former youth centre had been destroyed by the Nazis in the Progromnacht 1938.
The archtects Dieter Knoblauch and Heinz Heise finished the building on 10/21/1959.
This synagogue is a monument since 12/9/1999.
