„Die ganze Stadt stand unter Wasser. Der Wasserstand hatte nachts um 2 Uhr den höchsten Punkt erreicht. An der Straße nach Lispenhausen, etwa 25 Schritt vom Kilometerstein 51,7, zeigt ein Markstein, wie hoch dort das Wasser am 18. Januar, 3 Uhr morgens, stand. Die Fulda schwemmte alle möglichen Gegenstände heran, unter anderem auch starke Holzstämme, welche die Holzbrücke zwischen Alt- und Neustadt auf beiden Seiten so beschädigten, daß sie unpassierbar wurde. Im Winter des Vorjahres fiel starker Schnee, der infolge des Witterungsumschlages und eingetretenen Regenwetters rasch schmolz und im Januar den höchsten Wasserstand hervorrief.“

"The whole town was under water. The water level was at night by 2 clock reaches the highest point. On the road to Lispenhausen, about 25 yards from the mile stone step 51.7, is a marker, as the water up there on January 18, 3 clock in the morning, standing. The Fulda flooding carrying all sorts of items, including large logs, which on both sides so damaged the wooden bridge between the old and new city, that it was impassable. In the winter of last year's heavy snow that quickly melted due to the weather envelope and occurred rainy weather in January and caused the highest water level fell. "
