The city of Katy is within the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area in Texas, straddling the Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties.
Although Katy covers an area of 11 sq miles and has an estimated 14,500 residents as of 2012, the city only has one firehouse at this time. As of late 2014, efforts are underway to gather funds and set up a 2nd home in order to better serve the city's needs.
This particular monument of a firefighter standing in repose while in full gear was purchased and donated in 2004 by the then-current members of Katy's fire department; its plaque reads:
THIS STATUE WAS DONATED TO THE CITY OF KATY BY THE MEMBERS OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
IT IS DEDICATED TO ALL, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE MEMBERS.
OCTOBER 2004
