The museum, run by volunteers, is contained within the former Pilot's Cottage & the displays are set out in each room. There are displays covering the harbour's main use in the nineteenth, early twentieth century which was to transport quarrying material, cedar & dairy produce.
There is a 3D map in the foyer, mineral displays, a glassed in display of the quarry wharf, a series of photos outlining a fire that destroyed the main street, wrecks, the ships that served Kiama, a section on dry stone walls & the voyage by Matthew Flinders who circumnavigated Australia in colonial times.
The cottage has been restored to its original design & it occupies a prominent position overlooking the former harbour.
