Bassin de La Villette is an artificial lake although it looks more like a wide canal. More can be found about this surface of water on Wikipedia: (visit link)

It's a leisure area with esplanades, cinemas, cafes and restaurants. Definitely nice spot and very adequate to this business. The pedal boats are immaculate and the feature a wheel. The place also sells drinks and snacks so part of a group can stay ashore while those interested go for some water fun.
