Walker's Reserve Corps.
Maj. Gen. Wm. H. T. Walker.
Sept. 20, 1863
Walker’s Division, | Brig. Gen. States Rights Gist. |
Liddell’s Division, | Brig. Gen. St. John R. Liddell. |
After the repulse of Breckinridge’s division about 11 A.M. the division of Walker and Liddell were brought forward and at noon Walker’s division attacked the Union lines northeast of the Kelly field and was repulsed. Walthall’s brigade of Liddell’s division on the left of Walker also made an attack and was forced to retire. Liddell ‘s brigade of the same division was driven back after reaching a point near the Lafayette road. At 5 P.M. Liddell division supported by Walker’s advanced across the Lafayette road at McDonnell’s. From this position Liddell’ division was at first forced back by enfilading battery fires and by a charge of Turchin’s Union brigade along its front but subsequently reoccupied the position at dusk and the whole corps bivouacked on this portion of the field.

Note
Trailhead Graphics, Inc. has produced a map of the Chickamauga Battlefield showing the locations of all of the monuments and the markers on the battlefield. Each location on the map has a number associated with it that cross-references to an index on the back of the map that has the name of the marker (called the Chick-Chatt NMP monument numbering system). This number corresponds to the structure Number listed on the NPS List of Classified Structures that is normally prefixed with the letters MT for the Chickamauga Battlefield.
