Tauranga Bay at Cape Foulwind is home to a fur seal breeding colony, which is accessible by a well-maintained walking track. Although this is a year-round colony, the best time to view is October to March when the Big Bull Seals return to mate and the pups are at their most playful.

The Cape Foulwind Walkway starts at the end of the Cape Foulwind Road and finishes at the Tauranga Bay car park. The Tauranga Bay Seal Colony Walk is an excellent walking track leading to viewing platforms overlooking the seal colony. Interpretative panels at the platforms provide information on the activity in the colony, and the seals breeding cycle.

The walk is 500 m (15 min) one way from the trailhead to the seal colony and 2.9 km (1 hour) one way to the lighthouse. The walkway has been designed specifically to accommodate wheelchairs.

The coordinates are from the Cape Foulwind Walkway trailhead at the Tauranga Bay car park.
