GEN. CHARLES HANEY NELSON
Born in Wilkes County, GA., Nov. 2, 1796.
Died Sept. 30, 1848.

This is a monument to General Charles Haney Nelson (1796-1848) who participated in the Seminole Indian War and the Mexican War of 1845. For a while he lived east of Calhoun.

The monument is 20 feet tall and made of marble. It was originally located here on the grounds of the Gordon County Courthouse, but was relocated in 1975 to an intersection in the town square area. It has been moved back here prior to October 6, 2014 when I visited this site.
