The Bishop's House at Cairns, a two-storeyed re-inforced concrete building, was erected in 1930 as a monastery for the Augustinian fathers who administered the Vicariate Apostolic of Cooktown, and St Monica's Parish in Cairns. It replaced an 1887 timber presbytery.
The inscription reads
"Rotary Club of Cairns History Trail
St. Monica's Church was built here in 1886. The presbytery in 1887. The Sisters of Mercy arrived in 1892 bringing Catholic education to Cairns. The Church, Presbytrey, and school were destroyed by cyclone in 1927 and were rebuilt in 1928."
