This station is a National Geodetic Survey standard vertical control mark, located in New Milford, CT. It is set in the south end of a coping stone atop a culvert headwall near the northbound side of U.S. Rt. 7.:
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1984 3.5 KM (2.2 MI) SE FROM GAYLORDSVILLE. 3.5 KM (2.2 MI) SOUTHEAST ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 7 FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 55 IN GAYLORDSVILLE TO THE MARK ON THE LEFT, IN TOP OF THE SOUTHEAST END OF A COPING STONE HEADWALL FOR A CULVERT UNDER THE HIGHWAY, BETWEEN UTILITY POLES 227 AND 228 ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, 4.78 METERS (15.7 FT) NORTHEAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 15.06 METERS (49.4 FT) NORTH-NORTHWEST OF UTILITY BRACE POLE 2275. THE MARK IS 0.35 METERS NNW FROM A WITNESS POST. THE MARK IS 0.18 M BELOW HIGHWAY.
Traffic on this roadway is rather high, and it is relatively narrow in spots up this way. Parking is limited, but not impossible.
In this case, park off the northbound side of the roadway, just past the culvert.
This culvert is close to the roadway, and you will be placing yourself in a blind spot to northbound traffic, which can be very hazardous. Wait for all traffic to pass before attempting a recovery.
Think ahead, be safe.
