Aunt Ellen is buried near the eastern edge of Sanger Cemetery, her grave marked by a simple, nearly square marble headstone that says:

Aunt Ellen Miller

Jan. 3, 1836
Aug. 20, 1943

She Was Good

She was truly a Citizen of the Republic of Texas, which was born the year of her birth. Significant events in her lifetime include:

1836 - The Fort Parker Massacre takes place near present-day Groesbeck, TX. Cynthia Ann Parker is abducted, and she gives birth to Quanah Parker while living among the Comanches.
1846 - Pope Pius IX begins the longest reign in papal history, 31 1/2 years.
1856 - The Crimean War ends.
1866 - Alfred Nobel invents dynamite, and later considers how his name will go down in history.
1876 - The Bass Brewery Red Triangle becomes the world's first registered trademark symbol.
1886 - The Statue of Liberty is dedicated.
1896 - Utah is admitted as the 45th US state, a considerable latecomer in light of when the area was settled.
1906 - The San Francisco Earthquake destroys most of the city, killing over 3000.
1916 - The Black Tom explosion takes place in Jersey City, NJ, an act of German terrorism.
1926 - African-American pilot Bessie Coleman is killed after falling from an airplane.
1936 - The Tasmanian Tiger goes extinct.
