The Mont-Mégantic Observatory (OMM), a component of Quebec Astrophysics Research Centre (CRAQ) has a type Ritchey-Chrétien telescope whose primary mirror is 1.6 m in diameter. It is the largest telescope in eastern North America. The observatory is located atop Mount Mégantic in the Eastern Townships, at an altitude of 1111m, about 250km from the cities of Montreal and Quebec City.
All afternoons durin summer, ASTROLAB conducts tours of the observatory. In the evening, the Astronomical Observatory is exclusively dedicated to research. There is one exception to this rule! A few nights a year, the largest observatory's telescope is accessible to the public, during the Popular Astronomy Festival of Mont Mégantic. During the festival, electronic instruments are replaced by an eyepiece that allows visual observation. During other nights of the year, ASTROLAB organizes astronomy evenings with public observatories.
