La Samaritaine - Paris,Fr - Flatirons on Waymarking.com

There are ten of all students or alumni of the National School of Fine Arts of Paris, on the left bank of the Seine, facing the flag ship of La Samaritaine. Unlike last year, they have not documented explored, invested their fancy or their imagination inside the building but their "white card" brought them, in freedom, traveling the "Quartier Samaritan ". A complex territory, between the Rue de Rivoli and the Seine, the Louvre and the Place du Châtelet, an urban space difficult to define and is known to have to turn around, among other things, future Samaritaine.
In fact, these girls and boys continued their research here, confronted their questions about the mode of expression they have chosen a real restructuring and attempted definitions of both their practice and their tools.
They invented route, choosing always different perspectives and varied logic, they questioned the meaning of the black and white color practiced between painting and realism practiced narrative, poetic approach chosen or strict inventory , questioned the story or evoked current residents, but still, they wanted to stick to a specific project, developed an approach.
If these conceptual approaches are strongly marked, they are not necessarily austere. They are full of surprises, emotions, feelings, they lead us to visions of what we do not apprehend when we bystanders and ultimately they draw for each stakeholder a "neighborhood" possible, that n does not exist beyond their subjectivity that may never exist.
Side by side, these ten today looks also invite us to ask ourselves what photography is and what it can be used in a world full of billions of images in all directions. Certainly slow the flow, take time to discover. To see if indeed this is still possible.

Ils sont dix, tous élèves ou anciens élèves de l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des beaux arts de Paris qui, sur la rive gauche de la Seine, fait face au bâtiment amiral de La Samaritaine. Contrairement à l’an passé, ils n’ont pas documenté, exploré, investi de leur fantaisie ou de leur imaginaire l’intérieur de l’édifice mais leur « carte blanche » les a amenés, en toute liberté, à parcourir le « Quartier Samaritaine ». Un territoire complexe, entre la rue de Rivoli et la Seine, le Louvre et la Place du Châtelet, un espace urbain difficile à définir et dont on sait qu’il est amené à se transformer autour, entre autres, de la future Samaritaine.
De fait, ces jeunes filles et jeunes gens ont poursuivi là leurs travaux de recherche, ont confronté leurs interrogations sur le mode d’expression qu’ils ont choisi à un réel à restructurer et ont tenté des définitions à la fois de leur pratique et de leurs outils.
Ils ont inventé des parcours, choisissant des perspectives à chaque fois différentes et des logiques variées, ils ont interrogé le sens du noir et blanc, pratiqué la couleur entre peinture et réalisme, pratiqué la narration, choisi l’approche poétique ou l’inventaire strict, questionné l’histoire ou évoqué les actuels habitants du quartier mais, toujours, ils ont voulu s’en tenir à un projet précis, ont développé une démarche.
Si ces approches conceptuelles sont fortement marquées, elles ne sont pas obligatoirement austères. Elles réservent des surprises, des émotions, du sentiment, elles nous entraînent vers des visions de ce que nous n’appréhendons pas lorsque nous sommes de simples passants et, finalement, elles dessinent, pour chacun des intervenants un « quartier » possible, qui n’existe pas au-delà de leur subjectivité, qui n’existera peut-être jamais.
Côte à côte, ces dix regards d’aujourd’hui nous invitent également à nous interroger sur ce qu’est la photographie et sur ce à quoi elle peut servir dans un monde traversé de milliards d’images en tous sens. Certainement à ralentir le flux, à prendre le temps, à découvrir. A voir, si tant est que cela soit encore possible.
