In downtown Gettysburg is the Blue Parrot Bistro, which is in a building that stood during the Battle of Gettysburg.
The Blue Parrot Bistro is a restaurant that also has billiard tables. It is located on Chambersburg St. across the street from the Christ Lutheran Church, which also existed during the battle.
According to the bistro web site, the building that the restaurant occupies sits on the site of one of the earliest houses in the borough. In 1850, Mrs. Schwartz' Oyster Parlor opened and operated for eight years before it was converted to a residence. It is said that during the Battle of Gettysburg, the residence housed "a good many surgeons," which indicates that the building could have been used as a field hospital.
