Near Strasburg, within the Strasburg Rail Road, is this smaller form of a train ride.
The Strasburg Rail Road is located along Route 741, about a mile east of the community of Strasburg. It is also across the street from another railroad attraction, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.
The miniature railroad is an end to end operation that winds through the property. The depot where you pay is about the middle. One end is near the parking lot while the other is by the maintenance building for the 'full scale' trains. The train runs by other activities, as well as the passenger waiting area for the 'full scale' trains, and along Route 741.
The engine still runs like its bigger brothers - stream using coal as the fuel. The cars are built and painted to give the impression of boxcars.
There is an extra charge to ride the Pufferbelly - I don't believe that you can just ride the miniature train. The main price was $18 for a person 12 and up, and $12.50 for children (2014). This admission allows access to all the 'extras' that includes a ride on a hand car where you propel yourself with hand petals.
The train, previously known as Cagney, was built in the early 1900s, as early as 1903, but there is some doubt as to the exact year. The train was used as an attraction at Coney Island in New York.
