The Spejbl (Spaybul) and Hurvínek (Hurveenek) Theatre was established in Pilsen in 1930 by Prof. Josef Skupa (1892 - 1957) as the first professional puppet theatre in Czechoslovakia.

"Divadlo Spejbla a Hurvínka je loutkové divadlo zamerené predevším na predstavení pro deti, v nichž hrají hlavní roli Spejbl, Hurvínek, Mánicka, paní Katerina a pes Žeryk. Bylo založeno v Plzni v roce 1930 Josefem Skupou. Zacátkem roku 1944 bylo nacistickými úrady uzavreno až do konce 2. svetové války. Na podzim 1945 divadlo presídlilo do Prahy, kde pusobí až dosud."

It was founded in Pilsen in 1930 by Josef Skupa. In early 1944, the Nazi authorities closed the theatre. In autumn 1945 the theater moved to Prague, where he works until now. "
