Missouri River is 3 miles down stream on the Grand River
Lewis and Clark camp site is here. They met with and recruited fur trader Pierre Dorion here. Also here the Potawatomi Indians ferried their wagons across the Grand River, right here - 1838.
Ramp is on the Grand River about 1/2 up stream from the mouth of the river as it flows into the Missouri River. To explain the statement in the short description. In 1804, when Lewis and Clark came through here on the Corps of Discovery, this very bank (see photo) was the north bank of the Missouri River and the mouth of the Grand River was some 1/4 of a mile west (or to your right as you view the photo). Over the years the Missouri changed course, and is 3 miles south of this location, and the mouth of the Grand River shifted down the old channel and meets the Missouri about 3 miles SE.
