Vincent Philippon wrote 1521 the legend of the "Saintes-Maries" and the "Holy Mary". In it, Sara plays a major role.
A tradition from the 11th century describes Sara along with Mary Magdalene (mother of Jesus), Mary of Bethany and Martha, as a witness of the empty tomb of Jesus on Easter morning.
Around the year 40 they should have fled together in a boat off the persecution of Christians. Without sails and oars they shall be driven from Palestine to the coast of Carmarque. Near Saint Maries de la Mer they landed.
Sara was not a rich woman. She was the servant of Mary. The special thing about her is the black skin color. There are no black people otherwise revered in the Christian faith.
After the landing, they should have the Christian faith spread in the Carmaque. By begging alms they financed the small Christian community.
Because of your skin color and the begging she is venerated by gypsies.
Each year in May a celebration in St. Maries de la Mer is taking place to honor her. Then gypies and tourist travel from all over europe travel to the city.
In a crypt under the church their bones are kept.
Thousands of tourists visit every year the crypt in the church.
