In York, at the York Fairgrounds, is the York Fair, a ten day long annual agricultural and entertainment event for the County of York.

The fair is located on the west side of the city. The main entrance is from Carlisle Ave (PA Route 74). We entered via another gate from the south.

The York Fair is a long established traditional festival. This is what is on the official web site:

"The York Fair, “America’s First Fair®” is an annual Fair held in September, beginning the first Friday after Labor Day in York, PA. In 2015, the York Fair will be celebrating 250 years since the first York Fair in 1765."

There is more on the site - I'll let you read it.

The fair runs starting the Friday after Labor Day and goes to the Sunday after next.

There are lots to see in the fair. One of the first things we saw was the pig and hot dog races (dachshunds dressed in hot dog buns and mustard). We also saw the agricultural exhibits, including the barn, the 4-H displays, the circus, and the train layout. We also had some of the usual fair-food. oh, and there was the annual butter sculpture - this time a horse pulled wagon!

We didn't stay for the evening entertainment or the fireworks, but they have that as well.
