The Peak Forest Canal
It is a narrow canal and is fourteen miles long and connects Buxworth with Dukinfield, at the junction of the Ashton Canal. The sixteen locks near the town of Marple raise the canal a height of 210 feet in a distance of 1 mile.
The Milestone
The milestone stands next to lock 15, the second highest lock in the flight of 16. It is in poor condition, and obscured by an overgrown hedge.
It shows the distance from there to the Ashton Canal as 8 Miles.
