This 10ft light grey granite obelisk is located on the southwest corner of the Rutherford County Courthouse grounds. The obelisk commemorates the fact that Murfreesboro was the capital of Tennessee at one time. The obelisk has two square inscription blocks with the obelisk resting upon the blocks. The bottom block text alternates between Murfreesboro and Former State Capital.
