More advanced that earlier ore cars, these were small hopper cars with openings at the bottom of the hopper to empty them. These ore car would have been used either at the mines or the smelter of the Anaconda Copper Mining Company, shifting loads of ore. At the mines, they would have hauled ore from the mine to large tipples, or storage bins, to later be loaded onto trains which hauled it to the Anaconda smelter. If used at the smelter, they could have hauled ore from storage areas to the smelter or slag from the smelter to the slag pile.
