The plaque in this location describes the building of the first windmill of Upper Canada in 1790s by Sergeant John Howell. The windmill was 10 meters in diameter and made of stone. It was used for pumping water from the lake most likely. By 1877 the tower was destroyed and there is but a footprint of the building left. The sign was erected by the Adolphustown-Fredricksburgh Historical Society in 2012.
