The ornate sign arm arches upward and away from the wall and has gold leaves and a single gold flower within the bracket. At the end of the bracket hangs a depiction of an old stone city gate in gold. Hanging from the old city gate is a banner with the name Obertor in it.
Although we weren't able to find out anything about the inn itself on the internet, we were able to find information about the origin of its name. The following information (in German) is from a Heritage Trail brochure on the internet (

"Das Obertor bestand vom Mittelalter bis 1811. Hier regelte der Stadtwächter den Zugang vom Rheintal bzw. von den Bündner Pässen ins Städtchen. Das Wirtshausschild erinnert heute noch an das Tor."
[English Translation: The upper gate was from the Middle Ages to 1811. This watch gate regulated access from the Rhine valley and from the Graubunden passes into town. The inn sign was created in remembrance of the gate.]
Also, there is a website for the Chinese restaurant located on the building's ground floor. The restaurant is run by the Tam Family from Hong Kong; the family has over 30 years of experience in offering Chinese cuisine in Switzerland.
