This marker is placed to commemorate the history behind the planting of the large tree nearby. The tree was planted in soil from the civil war battle fields to honor the Grand Army of the Republic.

It was marked and rededicated by Isaac Crist Camp Number 28, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Johana Shine Tent Number 82, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War--Reno, Nevada, October 18, 1969
