This time cannon is situated on Mill's Mount Battery on the north side of Edinburgh Castle. It was established in 1861 as a service to the sailors in the Firth of Forth, who could adjust their chronometers according to its sound. It is still fired daily (exept on sundays) as a tourist attraction.
The type of the gun has changed several times, presently a L118 Light Gun is used. There is also a small but interesting exhibition about the gun under Mill's Mount Battery.
Please note that there is an entrance fee for the castle.

Visit Instructions:
You must, of course, physically visit the waymark. Posting a photo of your visit is good, but try and take a photograph of the site distinct from an existing photo—a different angle, or something overlooked by previous visitors. Include a short description of your visit: was the ball or cannon in use, a popular tourist destination, anything new added, anything changed? Work towards keeping the waymark current.
