Wisenberg is a mountain of the Jura range; with a height of 1,002 meters it is the easternmost and also the northernmost Jura peak that is higher than 1,000 meters.
On the mountain summit there had been a watch tower, since the late medieval time. In there early 19th century this place became a first level triangulation point of the Swiss geodetic system (the stone under the red pyramid roof next tot the tower). In the First World War a military watch tower was built. It was rebuilt as a civil look-out tower with a height of nine meters in 1927. In 1953 it was extended to 15 meters and again in 1987 to 24.5 meters. You can easily distinguish these different parts in the current structure.
The top of the tower offers a great view over the eastern part of the Jura mountains with its villages and valleys, as well as the Alps in the south. The orientation tables show the names of the mountains and villages that can be seen from here. There is one table in each cardinal direction.
