A sign at the entrance to the churchyard cemetery provides the following information:
"This Churchyard was built after the Italian model of a Campo Santo in 1595-1600 during the reign of Archbishop Wolf Dietrich. The tombs of many well-known personalities are to be found there: Theophrastus Paracelsus (+1541), Elia Castello (+1602), Leopold Mozart (+1787), Constanze, the widow of W.A. Mozart, born Weber (+1842) and her second husband Nikolaus v. Nissen (+1826) and Genovena von Weber, the mother of Carl Maria von Weber (+1798). In the middle of the cemetery is St. Gabriel's Chapel, the Mausoleum of Archbishop Wolf Dietrich (+1617) erected in magnificient architectural design and decorated with superb interior paintings by Elia Castello during the years 1597-1603."
