This moving bronze statue of a WWII soldier reading a letter from home, with a bronze relief of a photograph his 1940s wife and son in Williams AZ beneath is part of the larger Monument Plaza in Williams AZ.
The soldier is on a pedestal of local flagstone rock, in a plaza also paved with local flagstones. As you approach the memorial. a low flagstone wall contains the seals of the branches of the US Armed Forces.

Williams war memorial dedicated Saturday

Residents of Williams will honor the city’s fallen soldiers Saturday during a ceremony to dedicate the Williams War Memorial in Monument Park.
According to information from the Williams Chamber of Commerce, the ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the park, which is on the west side of the city at Railroad Avenue and Route 66.
The memorial statue was sculpted by local sculptor, Neil Logan.
“It’s a really beautiful bronze statue,” said Gioia Goodrum, president and CEO of the Williams Chamber. “We’re happy to be able to honor our fallen.”
Titled, “Letter form Home,” the 300-pound sculpture is of a U.S. soldier kneeling and holding a letter, Goodrum added.
Williams Mayor John Moore will officiate the event. State Rep. Andy Tobin will be a guest speaker along with Maj. Kim L. Gage, commander of the Navajo Army Depot in Bellemont.
Colors will be presented by the Matthew James Broehm VFW Post 12128. The American Legion Patriot Guard will also participate in the event.
Veterans and their families are invited to join the ceremony and attend a post-dedication reception at the American Legion Cordova Post 13 on Grant Avenue, in Williams.
