Mabel Hartzell was born in 1875 and moved to Alliance in 1883. The house was built in 1867 for Mathew and Mary Earley, who adopted Mabel. She lived in the house until she died in 1954. She was a teacher and founded many local organizations and donated the house to the Alliance Historical Society.
