EN: The old sawmill is located in the south of Sissach near Zunzgen. In a historic publication of 1892 it is dated to the 15th century; but there are no official documents to prove its existence before 1567.

The original house, now the south wing of the angular building, probably dates from the 16th century and has been altered several times. Following that publication it was destroyed twice by fire. Because of the many well preserved original building parts that is unlikely. The fires are believed to have affected especially the commercial part and not the stone dwelling house.

The house was extended in 1800 to an east wing. This was done without planning permission and led to legal disputes. But the construction was completed. 1863 a second sawmill was set up in an adjacent building, which is still in operation today. The old sawmill was decommissioned in 1911 and converted into apartments.

DE: Die alte Säge liegt im Süden von Sissach Richtung Zunzgen. In einer historischen Publikation von 1892 wird sie auf das 15. Jahrhunder datiert; urkundliche Hinweise auf ihre Existenz stammen aber erst von 1567.

Das ursprüngliche Haus, heute der südliche Flügel des winkelförmigen Gebäudes, stammt wohl aus dem 16. Jahrhundert und wurde mehrmals verändert. Nach der erwähnten Publikation sei es zweimal durch Feuer vernichtet worden. Aufgrund der vielen gut erhaltenen originalen Gebäudeteilen ist das aber unwahrscheinlich. Die Brände werden vermutlich vor allem den Gewerbeteil und nicht das steinerne Wohnhaus betroffen haben.

Das Haus wurde 1800 um einen Ostflügel erweitert. Das geschah ohne Baubewilligung und führte zu juristischen Streitereien. Der Anbau wurde aber vollendet. 1863 wurde in einem Nebengebäude eine zweite Säge eingerichtet, die noch heute in Betrieb ist. Die alte Säge wurde 1911 stillgelegt und zu Wohnungen umgebaut.
