According to the legend, in the 13th century, Saint Louis asked the abbot Thibaut of Marly to pray for his spouse, Marguerite of Provence, who was sterile. Thibaut made the queen drink the water of the fountain and subsequently bore eleven children. The spring water has since been reputed to improve the fertility of women.
