The marker reads:
"The Neighbors of the palace. The buildings opposite the palace were completed in 1859. The architect was Friedrich August Stüler. They were used as military barracks until 1918, when the Berlin Security Police (SiPo) moved in. Originally established to protect the Weimar government, the SiPo developed into a nest of radical right-wing opposition and was disbanded in 1920. In 1929: the Prussian "Polizei-Institut" moved in to train a civic, democratic police based on modern criminal science. From 1937 on training of Nazi detectives and of the Gestapo took place in the then newly named "Führer School of the Security Police". From 1939 graduates, such as Klaus Barbie and the members of the "Einsatz-gruppen", oppressed and murdered civilians in Nazi-occupied European countries and Eastern Europe. Many graduates were successful in the post-war police force, among them Paul Dickopf, President of the Federal Criminal Police Office, 1965-1971, trained in 1938/39. Today the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums of Berlin) use the buildings."
