Thomas Selle wurde am 23.03.1599 in Zörbig geboren. Seine Ausbildung erhielt er als Thomaner in Leipzig unter Sethus Calvisius und Johann Hermann Schein. 1624 begann er an der Schule in Heide (Holstein) zu unterrichten, bevor er 1625 Rektor und wahrscheinlich Leiter der Kirchenmusik in Wesselburen wurde. Ab 1634 war Selle Kantor in Itzehoe, ab 1641 Kantor am Johanneum und Musikdirektor der vier Hauptkirchen Hamburgs, ab 1642 als Canonicus Minor auch am Mariendom.

Bekannt wurde Thomas Selle als Komponist des Barock und hinterließ unter dem Titel Opera omnia der Stadt Hamburg seinen gesamten musikalischen Nachlass in 16 Stimmbüchern und 3 Tabulaturbänden Abschriften von den meisten seiner geistlichen Werke. Diese werden in der Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg aufbewahrt.

Thomas Selle was born on 03/23/1599 in Zoerbig. He received his training as St. Thomas in Leipzig under Sethus Calvisius and Johann Hermann Schein. In 1624, he started at the school in Heide (Holstein) to teach before he became in 1625 Rector and probably director of church music in Wesselburen. As of 1634 Selle was a cantor in Itzehoe, from 1641 cantor at Johanneum and musical director of the four main churches of Hamburg, 1642 as a canon at St. Mary Minor also.

Became known as a composer of the Baroque Thomas Selle, leaving under the title Opera omnia of Hamburg, his entire musical legacy in 16 partbooks and 3 Tabulaturbänden copies of most of his sacred works. These are kept in the State and University Library Hamburg.
