The Keene, NH Soldiers' Monument was designed by George Arms, sculpted by Martin Milmore, fabricated by Charles S. Barnes, and cast at the Ames Manufacturing Company. It was dedicated on October 20, 1871.
A 8' by 3' by x 3' bronze figure of a Union soldier stands on an 11.75' by 7.5' square granite base. The moustached soldier is wearing a uniform with a long, belted overcoat and cap. A bayonet hangs on the left side of his coat. A pouch hangs from a strap over his left shoulder. He is holding the muzzle of a rifle with his right hand while the the butt of the rifle rests on the ground by his right foot.
A bronze plaque on front of base is inscribed:
KEENE
WILL CHERISH IN PERPETUAL HONOR
THE MEMORY OF HER SONS
WHO FOUGHT FOR LIBERTY
AND THE INTEGRITY OF THE
REPUBLIC
