E. M. Viquesney's sculpture Spirit of the American Doughboy was placed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2158 in the north end of what was formerly known as VFW Park in Winchendon, MA. The sculpture was copyrighted in 1934, cast 1940 and dedicated on September 15, 1940.

The 88" by 22" by 22" cast zinc figure of a World War I infantryman stands on top of a 76" by 48" by 48 granite base. He holds a grenade in his raised right hand and a rifle by his side in his left hand.

The front of the sculpture is inscribed:

SPIRIT OF THE AMERICAN DOUGHBOY

A plaque on the front of base has the emblem of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and is inscribed:

VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS
OF THE UNITED STATES
IT'S AUXILIARY & SONS OF THE V.F.W.
DEDICATE THIS MONUMENT
IN MEMORY OF ALL THOSE WHO FOUGHT
IN ALL WARS OF THE UNITED STATES
THAT THIS COUNTRY
MIGHT FOREVER ENJOY FREEDOM

On the back of the sculpture a plaque is inscribed:
