Clara Endicott Sears, the founder of the Fruitlands Museums commissioned Pumunangwet, He Who Shoots The Stars, which is installed next to the Native American Museum in 1931. The heroic size sculpture commemorates the Native American past and is meant to symbolized aspirations, hopes, and goals.
The 109" by 90" by 26" bronze sculpture rests on a 40" by 75" by 75" granite rock base. It was created by Clara Endicott Sears' cousin, Philip Sheldon Sears, and cast by the Gorham Manufacturing Company. It depicts a Native American standing with his back arched, holding a bow in his left hand as if firing an arrow straight up into the air. He is wearing a headdress with a single feather in his braided hair, a loin cloth, and moccasins.
On the rock granite base is the inscription:
PUMUNANGWET
(HE WHO SHOOTS THE STARS)
