Scarborough Central station opened on 7th July 1845 connecting Scarborough with York. The station was designed by G.T. Andrews and was extended in 1883 to accommodate excursion traffic and links to Pickering (1882) and Whitby (1885). Further expansion occurred into the twentieth century. The Pickering line closed in 1950 and the line to Whitby closed in 1965.
