Williams, Arizona, located in the heart of the Kaibab National Forest. Williams is over a mile high, at an elevation of 6,770 feet. And proud to be 'The Gateway to the Grand Canyon'.
The last Stoplight between Chicago & Los Angeles, was located on the Corner of this building. Williams was the last town on Historic Route 66 to be bypassed by the Interstate. The community was bypassed by I.40 on October 13th 1984. Williams now continues to thrive on tourism.
Historic Route 66, passes through the center of Williams, along W. Railroad Ave. & E. Bill Williams Ave. which is a Divided Highway, (one way system) through the Town Center.
"Founded in 1881, Williams was named for the famous trapper, scout and mountain man, "Old Bill Williams." A statue of "Old Bill" stands in Monument Park, located on the west side of the city. The exhibits delve into the history of Williams, the Forest Service, Main Street America-Route 66, the Bill Williams Mountain Men, and Native American Culture.
