One of eleven pieces of steel from the Twin Towers to be sent to Canada out of a total of 1500 sent out by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. NOTE: The memorial has been removed while the new fire hall is under construction.

The Port Authority started to accept requests from organizations for a piece of World Trade Centre in 2009. From all those requests, Nanaimo was selected. The piece of I beam (27" high, 10" wide, 12" long, and weighs 95 lbs) arrived at Fire Hall Number One in September 2011.
It went on display in front of the fire hall in 2014.
