Die Wassermühle in Zörbig hat eine lange Geschichte hinter sich. Wann dieses Gebäude genau gebaut wurde, lässt sich nicht mehr feststellen. Auf Grund ihrer Geschichte, kann man aber davon ausgehen, dass sie in etwa an das alter des Schlosses heran kommt.
Damals bestand die Aufgabe der Mühle darin, das Korn für das tägliche Brot, der Schlossbewohner und der Bewohner der Stadt Zörbig zu mahlen. Nach dem 30 jährigen Krieg, war die Mühle soweit zerstört, dass der Stadtrat diese abreißen lassen wollte. Herzog Christian I. ( der Theure Christian) kaufte unter anderen die Mühle und baute sie wieder auf. Ein halbes Jahrhundert später, ging die Mühle in Privatbesitz über.
Bis 1933 wurde an der Mühle nichts gemacht, was sie wieder sehr Baufällig machte. Außer dem zogen die Bitterfelder Gruben so viel Wasser, dass der Mühlteich austrocknete und das Wasserrad nicht mehr angetrieben werden konnte. Somit musste das Mühlrad entfernt werden.
Im Zuge der Vorbereitung des 1050jährigen Stadtjubiläums, im Jahre 2011, wurde das Mühlrad mit viel Sparsamkeit, Fördermitteln und vor allem mit Sponsoren rekonstruiert. Dass der Urzustand nicht wieder hergestellt werden kann, war allen Beteiligten klar. Doch letztendlich entstand durch das ehrenamtliche Engagement von Frank Freitag, Rudi Schöllner, David Grafe, Hans-Joachim Rieger und Dietmar Börner ein Mühlrad, das heute wieder ein reales Bild der alten Wassermühle zeigt.
Heute befindet sich an der Mühle nur ein kleiner Teich und das Mühlrad wird mit einem Elektromotor angetrieben.
