Old Blandford Church was restored by the Ladies Memorial Association of Petersburg and dedicated as a Confederate Memorial Chapel in 1901.

What is now known as Old Blandford Church was originally constructed in 1735 as an Anglican Church. This area was the scene of fighting during the Revolutionary War. Following the war, a new Episcopal church was built closer to central Petersburg and the congregation declined and finally abandoned the structure. Petersburg partially restored the church to prevent it from falling to ruin in the 1880's, but this was incomplete. The Ladies Memorial Association stepped in and restored the church for use as a Confederate Memorial Chapel beginning in 1901. Funds were solicited from all of the former states of the Confederacy to purchase and install new stained glass windows designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany's studio - one for each state.

their efforts restored as a Memorial to the
Soldiers of the Confederate States of America

Some 30,000 Confederate Soldiers are buried inthe Cofederate Cemetery near this church. An annual memorial service is held here each June 9th. Tours are given seven days a week.
