Von ursprünglich drei Teichen im Süden der Stadt blieb nur der größte, der "Leipziger Teich" mit seiner Insel bestehen. Er hatte in der Vergangenheitwirtschaftliche Bedeutung durch Fischfang, Schilfernte und das "Ernten" von Eis, das, eingelagert im Eiskeller, im Sommer zur Kühlung des Zörbiger Bieres Verwendung fand.
Der Leipziger Teich wurde nicht künstlich angelegt, sondern entstand aus einer Quelle, die ihn bis heute mit frischem Wasser versorgt.
