This is actually an integrated steam engine and air compressor, with the steam engine's cylinder driving the compressor's cylinder directly. These were known as "straight line" compressors. The engine also has belt wheels for driving other machinery. Both compressor and engine have 14 X 12 inch cylinders. The latest patent date on the name plate is August 10, 1920, so it was manufactured some time after that.
