Italy is a small town in Ellis County, Texas with a population of population of 1,863 (2010 census).
The first house here was built in 1879 used as a dwelling, grocery store, and post office. It was named in 1880 and the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad arrived in 1890. The town was incorporated the following year.
This City Hall /Fire Department was built in 1926.
The two-story brick building originally had the City Hall on the west (left) side of the building and the Volunteer Fire Department was on the east side.
The City Hall subsequently moved into larger quarters and took over the J.G.Couch Building (Farmers State Bank Building) just 250 feet north of here at 101 Main Street West.
